FALL IN LOVE
October 3, 2022
“The act of letting go is much easier said than done. We all go through periods in life where we try to hold on to memories, people, and things. As wonderful as it is to reminisce the past at times, we must also learn to accept the fact that things change. Life, for all of us, is abundant in experiences, opportunities, and struggles, and without each of these, we cannot grow.
So cherish the memories, forgive the hardships, dismiss who or what is no longer serving you, and look to the future with positivity. To the best of your ability, embrace the beauty of letting go.”
I read these two paragraphs over and over from the website www.createnourishlove.com written by the creator Christina in 2015. I couldn’t find a better way to say her words than to just credit her quote.
As we enter into a new season of life, it’s a good time to take a look at our surroundings and decide to embrace the beauty of letting go. Are there things in your space that don’t serve you anymore? Why are you hanging on to them? Sentimentality? No idea how to purge? What makes you keep ‘things’?
It’s kind of the American way. More is more and more is good. But this way of thinking can actually clutter your mental space along with your physical space. Good interior design can help you feel better in your home. But to truly feel most comfortable in your space you should follow some simple rules to declutter and organize:
Just don’t bring it home.
Everyone loves a good bargain, but don’t get caught in the trap of it’s a good deal… Don’t bring it home.
Digitize nostalgia.
I know I have bins and bins of ancestral photographs. Not to mention the kids artwork or other familial artifacts. Get busy with your camera and make some nostalgia books and lessen that burden of bins.
Don’t overload your brain.
Start small when purging. One closet a weekend or even just go through the ubiquitous junk drawer.
You already have that.
Don’t duplicate! Okay, yes you need a few sets of sheets and more than one bath towel. But how many cheese graters, mixing bowls or hair brushes do you really need?
The heirlooms or the expensive.
Don’t hold onto items just out of guilt. Paid too much for a sofa you hate? Resell it and get something you truly enjoy. You will thank yourself.
Just put it away.
Organization is key. Make sure your home has a place for everything and make it a practice to stay tidy.
With autumn’s arrival, we spend more time indoors. Look around. Get busy. Make your space YOUR SPACE again. Fall in love with your home.
Stylishly yours,
