WALLPAPER...IS IT FOR YOU?
May 10, 2022
The trend for wallpaper is HUGE, much like some of the most popular patterns, but don’t be alarmed. Modern wallpapers don’t require a blow torch and jack hammer to remove them from your surfaces. Many of today’s papers are handily peel and stick with removable adhesives making installation and removal a breeze. So what’s stopping you from trying the latest trend and adding some spice to your space?
The spotlights on trends are so many, but I would like to highlight a few of my favorites.
• Maximalism
“Maximalism is the art of more-is-more; layered patterning, highly saturated colors, ample accessories and art (likely hung “salon-style”), and a real sense of playfulness and bold gestures,” states interior designer at White Arrow, Karen Richter. This style pushes the limits of design and utilizes big bold floral, graphic and geometric prints. It can be intimidating to try but the results are worth it.
• Japandi
According to Graham and Brown wallpaper company, “Combining the minimalism and functionality of Japanese design and the warmth and peacefulness of Scandi design, Japandi is the perfect look for a functional yet comfortable home.” So don’t feel like wallpaper has to be overwhelming with pattern. Interior design does accomodate those who don’t want to feel bogged down in their space. Japandi style would allow that sense of order.
• All the Yellows
Mustard isn’t just for hot dogs. Mustard is a wonderful tone of yellow that can be paired with so many coordinating colors in a home to create a fun and joyful space. Don’t be scared of yellow dominant wall covering. The sense of joy the color can bring to a home is sure to liven your life.
• Keep it Cool
A color palette of blues and grays with hints of white creates a soothing ambiance to your haven. A wallpaper in these tones can even be found to be a neutral. With a subtle pattern on all the walls, you create interest that will not impede your style but enhance it.
• Try a Mural
If wall to wall pattern terrifies you, try an accent wall of a mural. Bring the outdoors in with a beautiful depiction of a landscape. Add whimsy to your child’s room with their favorite fictional character. Or just enhance a section in the living room with a patterned section of one wall. Wallpaper can bring drama and be the element that ties a home’s design together.
• The Fifth Wall
What about the ceiling? Why not paint the ceiling a bold color and add a patterned paper to all the walls? This makes your ceiling the stand out feature and the wallpaper becomes the neutral. Or paper the ceiling! This technique can bring interest to even the smallest of rooms.
And if you just can’t commit to a whole room, try papering small areas to get your feet wet. The back of a bookcase, a cabinet or even a closet is a great place to add a little zing to a room. I’m betting your pantry could definitely use a glow up! And for a great money saving option, use wallpaper as a backsplash. Many papers are very durable and scrubbable allowing for easy clean up.
So while wallpaper has gained a scary reputation, a great modern wallpaper can make your space spectacular! Let us help you find just the right one for your home or office.
Stylishly yours,
