Treat Your Windows

February 16, 2024

Do your windows need a glow-up? Now is a great time to update your window treatments and

create a whole new atmosphere within your home. A combination of window dressings can bring

new life to a room and improve how you live in your home. Replace those generic window

treatments with ones that more accurately reflect your taste with the right color, style and

pattern.

The options can seem overwhelming and endless when looking for a covering for your window.

And... you have to factor in what you desire from your window treatments. If you’re looking for

privacy, darkness, style or convenience, these options will lead you to different types of

coverings. To list a few: roller shades, pleated drapes, cellular or solar shades, tap top curtains,

rod pocket drapes, shutters, blinds, sheers... are you confused yet? How do you achieve the

look you want? Beyond the functional benefits, layering your curtains may offer an opportunity

to experiment with different curtain and blind combinations to craft a look and feel that resonates

with your style. But never fear! We’re here to help you go through the process to find the perfect

fit for your home.

Like everything else, 2024 does have ideas on what is popular with windows. The big one is a

focus on natural, neutral and muted colors. Using these characteristics will make your home

serene, calming and earthy. Connect yourself to nature by using colors of terra-cotta's, olive

greens, subtle blues and muted grays. And whether you prefer minimalism, where less is more,

clean and sleek, or maximalism in the use of print and pattern in vibrant, geometric or floral

motifs, combining all the options for window coverings takes careful thought and consideration.

One question that always gets raised is: what length should my curtains be? Length of a curtain

can be determined by style, room purpose or drapery usage.

Let’s look at a few options:

• Ceiling to Floor- Having curtains cover a wall makes for drama in a modern and sophisticated

way. This style may also need to be motorized for operation and convenience.

• Standard- (often called floor length) Standard length is a traditional style and are just as tall as

your window. Mostly featured at exterior sliding or French style doors.

• Bunch or Puddle- Drapery allowed to gather on the floor makes a comfy and sleepy

atmosphere and can often be found in a maximalist design.

• Window Length- (apron curtains) These coverings hang right at the window sill. People often

feel like these curtains are only appropriate used at a “kitchen” window, but this length can be

very practical.

As you can see, there is much to be considered when choosing treatments for your windows.
