PEP IN YOUR STEP

March 29, 2022

Put a little PEP in your step…. As in your front step. It’s SPRING! And your house needs a breath of fresh air. Start with your front porch and give all the areas of your home a lighter, fresher look.

If you’re really feeling the need to make everything brighter, start with the front door and give it a big pop of color! Try a vibrant peach or even sky blue. And swap out all the outdoor winter holiday decor for a new outdoor rug, lots of spring plants and a new door wreath. You might even consider arranging florals in an old watering can and hanging it on your door for a new take on an old favorite. Use different heights and scale of objects to create visual interest and draw guests into your home.

Once inside, it’s all the little things that will make a big difference. Let’s start with sunshine! Throw open the curtains and if you’re not allergy prone, open the windows wide and let the wind air out the house. With all that sunshine flowing around, try growing real grass in baskets and pots. The new sprouts of green make a wonderful centerpiece or even a fun addition to Easter baskets. Bring in budding branches from your yard. Place them in tall vases and watch the plants bloom right before your eyes. Place greenery everywhere! The earth is transforming right outside your door. Bring that transformation in to feel alive and renewed!

Get the kids involved too. Give them some glue, colorful pom poms and branches from the yard for a neat spring craft that can be displayed around your home. And while you’re dying eggs, make some extra and create a vibrant centerpiece. Simply fill a large vase with the eggs and add fresh flowers.

Don’t forget the bedrooms and baths. Bed linens can be swapped out for lighter comfy quilts and new bath towels in springy patterns will liven up these areas of your home. And while you’re concentrating on linens, get new kitchen towels with fun patterns and prints to match your spring mood. Get out all your green dishware and use it for all your kitchen displays. Fill a bowl with fresh lemons. The zing of yellow will make everyone smile.

And if you want to be extra bold, jazz up a powder room, laundry area or pantry with a bold floral print wallpaper. Wallpaper isn’t the scary stuff it once was. The patterns available today are amazing and most of them are easily removed.

You may still be working from home. Make over your desk area. Clean away all the clutter and add pops of color to help you through the work day. And while you’re at it, dust up the entry or drop zone. Put away all the winter boots and display bright colored umbrellas.

Spring is also a prime time to look for rainbows! Use that cue to arrange items in your home in rainbow order. It’s a great way to add visual interest and organization.

Spring is the perfect time to renew all your favorite areas of your home.

Stylishly yours,
