“Feng Shui- sational”

February 28, 2024

Many cultures and ideas of thought influence design. One major school of thought for designing

your home is Feng shui. Our team uses many types of inspiration to help you create your dream

home. How can Feng shui be applied to yours?

feng shui: (in Chinese thought) a system of laws considered to govern spatial

arrangement and orientation in relation to the flow of energy (qi), and whose favorable

or unfavorable effects are taken into account when siting and designing buildings.

Literal translation: “the way of wind and water.”

The purpose is to get your environment in alignment with who you are and where you want to

go- to harmonize your energy with your homes energy. {realsimple.com} Feng shui is an ancient

Chinese art of arranging buildings (or homes), objects (think furnishings and decor), and space

in an environment to achieve harmony and balance. You can accomplish Feng shui by

thoughtfully considering what you bring into your home, how you arrange your home and how

you maintain your home. The way your house is built and how you arrange the objects within

effect your success, health and happiness. Your home should reflect you and evolve with you as

you evolve.

To bring Feng shui to your home:

• Clear clutter. Have an organizational system for everything. Clutter impedes a harmonious

environment.

• Open traffic flow. Do not allow a direct path or sight path from your front to back doors. The

energy will shoot through your home too fast. It’s as simple as adding a patterned rug or

round table in your entry way.

• Design a welcoming entry. Your front door is the portal for all energy to enter to your home.

Paint your front door red (especially if your home faces South) to bring luck to your home.

• Create balance with Feng shui colors. Every color represents an element. This study focuses

on incorporating the five elements of wood, fire, earth, metal and water into your home.

Simply put, the color red represents fire or use a literal option like a fireplace or a casual

candle.

• Maximize natural light. Natural light is healing. Maximize light in your home with the use of

mirrors, but be mindful of the reflection. The mirror should reflect even more light or a serene

view.

If you have a room that feels out of balance, it will feel uncomfortable. By balancing the five

elements the mood will shift. Having the elements balanced makes a customized space that

caters to your personality and goals. For example, does your kitchen sink sit directly across

from your stove? This is an unbalanced kitchen workstation. Why? The two are in conflict. Water

puts out fire. Fix it by placing a wood element between the sink and stove. Water feeds wood.

Wood feeds fire. Balance!

Harmony and balance sounds lovely! It’s what our team strives to achieve with every project we

are blessed to tackle.
