Do you get FINISH overload?
June 1, 2023
Do you get overwhelmed when designing a space? So many colors to pick from! So many
styles of furnishings! How do you know what matches and what clashes? It’s okay to feel like
you’re in the deep end of the pool with no float- that’s what we’re here for! We’re you’re design
lifeline. Our staff thrives on design and making your space feel uniquely like you- like home!
As a design team, we go through all the details. We manage layout, flow, focal points, styles
and how you want your space to feel. But finishes... they truly determine how your design
comes to life! Finishes are the materials and elements used to accentuate the design, cover the
construction elements and add functionality. Finishes are limitless. Just a few of the options can
include: natural stone, wood, metals, fabrics, renewable materials and tile. So how do you ever
mix them all together and know they will look good? That’s where we can guide you to your
dream home.
Our team goes through a process to get to know you, your family and how you use your spaces.
This information helps us to pick finishes that will work for you and stand up to your daily needs.
The determination of wants and needs will play into how the space feels. Finishes evoke
emotion and we want to give you all the right “feels”. Consistency in finish choices is key.
Running the same flooring throughout your home, using the same hardware finish, finding a
core color palette that is carried room to room makes your home flow. We even consider
exterior finishes and how they will introduce your home to the world. The exterior is just a
glimpse of what's to come on the interior of your home.
Here’s a short list of tips to consider:
1. Material selections should match the rooms function. For example, a laundry room should
have hard, easy to clean surfaces.
2. Budget should always be priority. But don’t let it deter good design. A suitable substitute can
always be found for a luxury item.
3. Reclaimed materials used in a space are not only budget friendly, but add character, value
and possibly even sentimental bonus for a client.
4. Prioritize your wish list. You may want the hand-made Italian tile for the backsplash, but the
18 month lead and delivery time makes it an impractical choice.
5. Vary materials and include texture. Moderation here is necessary.
6. Also, make sure there is a natural lighting source, and check your material choices and
colors in each space as the light changes throughout the day and evening. Lighting will
change how colors appear.
But don’t feel like you’re drowning in design decisions! We have your lifeline that will tow you
back in. Our design team looks forward to helping you choose finishes that will make your home
exactly the way you have it pictured in your mind. And not only that, it will work for you and
make your life easier. It’s what we do!
Stylishly yours,
