ALL THE PRETTY COLORS

April 13, 2022

2022 is seeing quite a shift in color from recent years. Muted dusky hues with vibrant pops of color are creating a stir in the interior design world.

Interior designers wait with anxious anticipation for Pantone to make its announcement for each years pick of Color of the Year. 2022’s pick did not disappoint. As shown above, the 2022 Pantone color of the year is Veri Peri #17-3938. As described by Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director, Pantone Color Institute, “Veri Peri displays a spritely, joyous attitude and dynamic presence that encourages creativity and imaginative expression.” This color would certainly inspire me to make more art! The shades of this periwinkle blue will complement recent color trends of rust and most certainly this year’s most popular greens.

Green is definitely the most popular color that will be in fashion this year. With the rise in wanting to bring the outdoors in and spring being at our doorsteps, going green cannot be a mistake.

Sherwin Williams’ Evergreen Fog (pictured below) is the perfect backdrop for any room. “Evergreen Fog is a sophisticated wash of color for spaces that crave a subtle yet stunning statement shade. Evergreen Fog inspires us to begin again and is a great choice for modern interiors and exteriors.”, as quoted by Sue Wadden, Director of Color Marketing at Sherwin Williams.

“Paint trends will fall into two distinct camps this year. There are those who are seeking reassurance from nature and are choosing earthy, organic shades. Think olive greens, sandy neutrals and clay-toned terracotta shades. This kind of desert palette shade always looks luxurious and comforting, whether on walls or textiles. On the other hand, lots of people are leaning towards the kind of vibrant, energizing and exciting hues, which were popular in the ’50’s.”, quotes Annie Sloan.

Don’t be afraid to add a little color in your life. Moody hues are all the rage. Cabinets, walls and even trim can be painted a smooth black. Try Jasper by Sherwin-Williams. Or for a dark option with a blue undertone, Benjamin Moore’s Raccoon Fur can help set the tone.

Do you still want to stay close to the neutral zone? Pratt and Lambert’s Feather Gray is a sophisticated, traditional neutral with lots of depth. And if you want even more warmth (see the photo), Farrow and Ball’s Drop Cloth is the perfect complement to bronze and brass. Drop Cloth would be ideal for cabinetry. But if you just need to stay in the “white wall” lane, go with Benjamin Moore’s Gray Owl. It’s crisp but not stark.

This year is all about the muted palettes and colors of nature within the home but not fully saturated. The dusky hues bring on a feeling of relaxation and calm. So take a breath. Relax.

It’s time to enjoy your home and love the life you have.

Stylishly yours,
