How does a design project come to life?

As a designer, I wear many hats. Not only am I the one making your design dream reality, I am running a business, managing employees, ordering inventory, keeping track of job timelines and making it all look EASY! *wink wink*

So many things happen ‘behind the scenes.’ Before you walk into your fresh, newly curated space, my expert design team and I have spent countless hours ensuring every detail is perfection!

How do we do it? Let’s talk about how a design project comes to life.

It may seem crazy, but I can see your fully furnished space in my mind’s eye before I ever put anything on paper. Your space comes to life in my mind before we even discuss your needs, wants, desires, and dreams. It’s my job to take your wishes and translate them into reality while considering practicality, function, and budget.

We begin with a site visit… and I mean ‘visit’ like when family comes for dinner. I don’t want to only see your space, I want to get to know YOU in your space. How you live, how you want to live, what works and what needs to change… all of these are tidbits we uncover while we walk and talk through your rooms.

Photos are snapped, measurements are taken, and design goals are formed.

The next step is where my team and I put our heads together and create initial design concepts that we know you will love. We explore solutions that will fit within your budget and timeline and look amazing too! We create a design that we can present to you and get your approval and changes.

Design isn’t about the designer. Good design is about you and your space. We meet with clients frequently to develop and fine tune all the details that make a space shine. If our design meetings are at your site, don’t be surprised if fabric swatches and paint samples fall out of my bag or if the truck of my car looks like a floor covering showroom. I always want to be prepared to have exactly what my client has in mind.

Once the design is fully developed, (just want to stop and point out, if you haven’t noticed, we haven’t swung one hammer in your space yet) it’s time for us to work out bidding, permitting, time constraints, and construction with contractors. It’s our job to work with different trades to coordinate the project to magically make your design dream reality.

All the behind the scenes steps lead up to the day when all the puzzle pieces fit. The new appliances that were ordered have arrived. The floor covering, counter tops, and back splash that perfectly compliment the cabinets are awaiting install. The light fixtures are ready to be assembled and hung. But what now?!

It’s the big day!

The contractors arrive and your space is transformed from what it was to what you dreamed.

Without all the behind the scenes work, we could not create a design that makes our client’s say ‘WOW!’, make you feel inspired, or create a relaxing retreat to end your day.
